Consider that the U-6 numbers indicate an actual unemployment rate of around 20%. Further know that 41% of the remaining workforce earns 20k/year or less and that 25% of workers earn $10/hr or less. That doesn't leave much room for the middle class.
Medical professionals such as RN's are a large portion of what's left of the middle class, as are Realtors. With schools churning out thousands of nursing grads each year, we are starting to see large hospital chains doing reductions in force and rehiring recent grads who are willing to work for much less than the current average RN pay of $64,000/yr..Realtors average around $50,000/yr but that will be changing soon.
Enter the new Obama care 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income.
This tax affects real estate professionals in the following way; if you own your home and it's current value is about 10% above the national average, upon the sale of your house you will likely be subject to the 3.8% additional tax. Now, if you hire a full service realtor and combine his commission with the new tax, you are going to take about a 10% hit on the home sale price. It will be much cheaper to do a for sale by owner (FSBO). The result could be as much as a 20% reduction in realtor earnings or worse if a realtor specializes in the high end market.
One more nail in the middle class coffin thanks to Obama and his lackeys.
